Planning & Eligibility

  • A home standby generator is a permanently installed unit connected to your home's electrical system via an automatic transfer switch (ATS). It automatically starts during a power outage and powers essential circuits.

A portable generator is a temporary manually-operated unit that requires extension cords or manual transfer.

  • We evaluate your essential loads (lights, refrigeration, HVAC, outlets) and your desired level of outage resilience. We perform a load calculation and recommend a generator size with a comfortable margin for startup surges.

  • We assess your panel rating, main breaker size, and service conductor capacity. If needed, our licensed electricians in coordination with your utility company will upgrade the service.

  • Most homes with a suitable outdoor space, and accessible natural gas or propane supply (for some models) are eligible. Certain HOA or local permit considerations may apply.
